Romance scams typically targeting baby boomers and older generations are becoming increasingly popular on dating apps and websites, according to the Federal Trade Commission. Just last year, the FBI's Internet Crime Report estimated that Americans lost more than $650 million to romance scams. Bernard Kim, CEO of Match Group, spoke with CBS News on the growing threat of online romance scams carried out by people overseas. Match Group — which owns Match.com and Tinder — is the largest online dating company in the United States. Match Group did not immediately return a request for comment from Business Insider.

Taylor (Opinion guest essay, nytimes.com, March 16):With more people on online dating platforms than ever, we have entered a new era rife with hot takes and opinions based on a narrow set of experiences. Recent surveys say that dating apps are the No. 1 way people meet today, and nearly 70 percent of individuals who met someone on a dating app said it led to a romantic, exclusive relationship. I am not here to question individual experiences, or pretend that every date will lead to success. There’s this false notion suggesting that dating apps don’t work.

Men are using AI tools like ChatGPT to improve their dating lives, an Attractiontruth study found. Some men said they used AI to generate their bios and craft personalized messages to their matches. Online dating can be tough, but AI might be making it a little bit easier, a new study suggests. Researchers at Attractiontruth, an AI dating coach, surveyed 1,371 men across the sexuality spectrum to see if they are using AI to enhance their dating profiles. In February, OkCupid used ChatGPT to generate matching-questions — like "Are you more of an introvert or extrovert" — that were later added to the platform, according to a company blog post.

Match Group Has Still Got Some Game

In online dating, most people lead with the flashy picture and disappoint in the flesh. New Match Group Chief Executive Officer Bernard Kim did the opposite. Shares of the dating giant rose more than 16% in after-hours trading Tuesday after it posted third quarter numbers that were so boring they were actually kind of sexy. Match’s revenue grew 1% year on year, while its adjusted operating income came in essentially flat on that basis. But when you beat what looks like sandbagged guidance by as much as 10%, as Match did on the bottom line, investors tend to perk right up.
The company, however, forecast flat growth in fourth-quarter revenue for Tinder. Match plans to tackle the slowdown with reductions in headcount-related expenses and marketing spend and expects to have flat margins in 2023. Shares of the company were trading at $51.21 in extended trading. read moreMatch forecast fourth-quarter revenue between $780 million and $790 million, below market estimates of $809.2 million, as it expects to take an additional $14 million hit from a stronger U.S. dollar than it had previously expected.
